No one will blame you for being so struck by the visual magnitude of Glacier National Park but you can only stand and look for so many minutes. If you’ve landed on this page, chances are you’re someone who craves action. To say you’ve come to the right place ranks as a world-class understatement.
HIKE TO A MOUNTAIN CHALET
Built in 1913 by the Great Northern Railroad, these quaint stone buildings have survived over ninety years in the some of the most rugged conditions imaginable. They serve as a formidable retreat after a day’s hike. You can reach the cabin from the 6.7 mile Sperry Trail or the more ambitious 12.1 mile Gunsight Trail from Jackson Glacier Viewpoint on Going-to-the-Sun Road. Either offers spectacular hiking concluding with a bed and hot meal.
Sister to the Sperry Chalet is The Granite Park Chalet. Rested in an alpine meadow at 6,000 feet about sea level, this chalet also
provides breathtaking scenery, unique accommodations and is reached by trail. Start at Logan’s Pass parking area and take the 7.6 mile Highline Trail.

FLOAT THE SOUTH FORK OF THE FLATHEAD
This is a remote adventure of serious commitment. Thanks to the fact you have to pack in a raft 25 miles before you even reach the river, a level of adventure and seclusion is all but guaranteed. Bring a rod and you are likely to land westslope cutthroat or bulltrout. The river remains floatable except in the lowest water conditions. If there is a better float in the lower 48, it must be an even bigger secret than this.
ZIP LINE
Few things are as exhilarating as ripping down a wire line at 50 mph about 100’ in the air. Sold? If so, you should enjoy the new zip line tour at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The tour takes about two hours as you whip from platform to platform, sailing in, out and over the trees. Check in at Whitefish Mountain Resort for more details.
